New border gate to be opened in Georgia
Customs and Trade Minister Hayati Yazici issued a written statement, stating that new border gates will operate on Turkish-Georgian borders upon the completion of mutual construction work and that the countries agreed to commission the Muratli Customs House. The decree on the construction of Muratli Customs House was reportedly published on the official gazette. Yazici also stated that although there are two checkpoints functioning between Georgia and Turkey, namely Sarpi and Turkgozu, it is required to create additional crossings to facilitate the booming trade between two countries and to make life easier for Turkish and Georgian villagers in the mountainous region during harsh winters as well as to enable cultural sharing among locals.
