Nowruz celebrated in Istanbul

Nowruz, an international festival of spirit of hope and renewal for the people, was celebrated at a cultural center at the Topkapi Square in Istanbul yesterday. The event was attended by Governor of Istanbul Huseyin Avni Mutlu, Acting Mayor of Metropolitan Municipality of Istanbul Ahmet Selamet, President of Union of Turkic World Municipalities Ibrahim Karaosmanoglu, Mayor of Zeytinburnu district of Istanbul Murat Aydin, as well as a great many guests from the Turkic world.  Speaking at the event, Mutlu defined Nowruz as the day of joy and the beginning of spring. Following his speech, guests were offered candies, and Mutlu and protocol members jumped over the fire to mark the day.
