Speaking to reporters before heading to Buenos Aires for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) vote on September 7 to choose the host of the 2020; "Looking back, I believe we have done everything in our capacity to gain the upper hand. Gezi Park, Egypt and Syria issues were the disadvantages we experienced. Tokyo and Madrid also have disadvantages of their own. Three candidate cities seem to stand an equal chance." said Minister for Youth and Sports Suat Kilic. He continued to say that Turkey solely focused on promoting the positive aspects of Istanbul to win the Olympics bid rather than making any negative assessments about other candidate cities. Kilic also stressed that Turkey would be the first country with a Muslim majority to host the event and this would send out a message to the whole world.
