Olympic Torch carried by 12 Turks
The torch has been carried on its relay route for the 2012 London Olympic Games in Hull, Britain by 12 famous people from Turkey, including actress Meltem Cumbul. Actress Cumbul who lit the flame under the historic arch in the Harewood region ran to the Harewood House with lots of Brits lining the street applauding her. Expressing her support for Istanbul’s 2020 Olympic bid ’I hope that we will have the same enthusiasm the British people have in Istanbul, in our own city,’ Cumbul said. On the 32nd day of the 70 day relay, the famous flame was brought from Hull to York.The other torchbearers were Harun Tekin, the soloist of music ensemble Mor ve Otesi, Kelime Aydın Cetinkaya, the first sportswoman who represented Turkey at the Winter Olympics, national swimmer Emre Musluoglu, columnists Cengiz Semercioglu and Selale Kadak, the founder chairman of the Alternative Living Association Ercan Tutal, coordinator of the Family Association of Turkey Deniz Yılmaz Atakay, academic Deniz Nur Ural, education advisor Mustafa Cakıroglu, cultural manager Tuna Yılmaz and university student Cem Arslan. The relay route which will cover many towns and cities in Britain until July 27 will be borne by a total 8 thousand people.
