Pace hails Turkey's quick response to Syrian refugee crisis

A Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) delegation yesterday hailed Turkey's quick response to the Syrian refugee crisis, but raised concerns about the lack of information available for refugees seeking asylum. "The Syrians living in the camps are grateful for the efforts of the Turkish authorities and the Turkish Red Crescent who agreed to meet their needs," the parliamentarians said in a statement. The message came after a four-member PACE delegation completed a trip to two refugee camps in the southern province of Hatay on Tuesday. The delegation, headed by Christopher Chope, praised the conditions in the camps, but said it was concerned by the lack of information on asylum procedure. "A number of Syrians seem [intent on seeking] asylum but do not know how to do it," it said. PACE said it is very important that the camps and their management are open to the involvement of international organizations.
