As part of strategies to be followed against the terrorist PKK by Turkey and the US in 2012, a critical meeting was held in Ankara on Wednesday. William F. Wechsler, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Counternarcotics and Global Threats, yesterday met with Turkish officials from the Directorate General of Security, National Intelligence Agency and the General Staff. During the meetings, three dimensions of fight against terrorism were discussed. Accordingly, eight camps in northern Iraq will be destroyed, direct meetings will be held with European banks to dry out financial resources of the PKK that it gains through drugs, smuggling and other ways, and the process of extraditing PKK members living in European countries will be accelerated. Furthermore, the US will contribute to the initiatives which are carried out in the presence of EU member states. Reportedly, intelligence sharing and joint investigations with regard to the PKK and al-Qaida were discussed in the meeting which was also attended by agents from the DEA, FBI and CIA.
