PM Erdogan to meet with Sargsyan next week in Washington
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Feridun Sinirlioglu as a special envoy to Armenia prior to visiting the US for a nuclear security summit set to begin next Monday. Sinirlioglu yesterday met with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian. Sinirlioglu gave a letter to Sargsyan signaling that Ankara is committed to the protocols Turkey and Armenia signed last fall and is determined to improve the normalization process. Afterwards, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Burak Ozugergin said, "During his [Sinirlioglu's] talks, the parties agreed that Erdogan and Sargsyan would meet during the nuclear security summit in Washington on April 12-13." In related news, asked about the issue in Paris, Erdogan said, "Turkey believes in the principle of pacta sund servanda [contacts must be honored], and it is determined to act in line with that. Therefore, we will always show commitment to the signatures we made in Switzerland."
