President Abdullah Gul will pay a visit to the US in order to attend the United National General Assembly session on September 20-29, during which he is expected to bring to attention developments in Syria and the Middle East. Referring to the humanitarian crisis taking place in Syria, Gul will point to the threat posed by chemical weapons to the world. For the very first time in the history of the UN General Assembly session, Turkey will be the third country to address the assembly this year. Brazil had always been the traditional first speaker during the UN General Assembly debate sessions, since the first meeting in 1947. This year, however, Gul will address the assembly after the speech of US President Barack Obama.
