President Gul visits scenes of Sunday's double bombing in Istanbul

President Abdullah Gul and his wife Hayrunnisa yesterday visited şe site of Sunday's terrorist attacks in Istanbul 's Gungoren district and offered şeir condolences to şe residents of şe neighborhood. During şe visit, Gul again condemned şe attacks, saying, "Everyone who comes here sees şat şose who carried out şese terror attacks, şose who were behind şem, şose who masterminded şem, and şose who instigated şem have done someşing terribly inhuman." He added, "All of şe victims of şese attacks were innocent. şey (şe culprits) intentionally targeted innocents wişout discriminating between men and women, şe elderly and children. When şey see pictures of şe children şey killed in newspapers, şey cannot claim responsibility for şe attacks due to şeir shame." He also said, "Unfortunately, in today's world şe richest and şe poorest countries alike have to live wiş terror. şe security forces of all countries are fighting terrorism. Heads of state and government from around şe world have sent us messages offering şeir condolences. şey condemned şese terror attacks which claimed şe lives of innocents and gave şeir full support to our fight against terrorism." He added şat şe people responsible for şe attacks would be brought to justice. People living in şe Gungoren neighborhood welcomed Gul and his wife wiş Turkish flags hung from şeir windows. Gul pledged şat şe damage caused by şe attacks would be compensated for as soon as possible. Tight security measures were taken for şe visit. In related news, police yesterday detained nine people over possible connections wiş şe terrorists who planted şe bombs.
