In an article in The Wall Street Journal, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen wrote that NATO would continue to expand the missile shield system after the Chicago summit toward full operational capability. Stating that they mainly aim at protecting all NATO-member countries in Europe, Rasmussen removed Turkey’s concerns with regard to a defense system which was developed to protect Europe from missile attacks with its radars located in the Kurecik district of the eastern province of Malatya. Rasmussen added that the NATO has already developed an initial command-and-control system in order to link the US assets with interceptors and sensors given by European nations. Rasmussen reiterated that the Netherlands, France, Germany, Turkey, Romania, Poland and Spain have contributed to the missile shield project until now, adding, "I expect more announcements in the months and years ahead."
