Turkey's primary expectation of its governors is that they treat all of its citizens fairly and without any discrimination, said President Abdullah Gul yesterday. Hosting the governors of Turkey's 81 provinces, led by Interior Minister Besir Atalay, at a luncheon at the Cankaya Presidential Palace, Gul reminded the governors of what he called their "great responsibilities" along with their official powers. Characterizing the governors as the state's gateway to the public, Gul said, "Our foremost expectation from you is that you embrace all of Turkey's citizens without any discrimination and be just to everyone." No citizen should feel forlorn in their own homeland, he added. In related news, Argentinean President Cristina Fernandez yesterday arrived in Ankara for an official visit, the first such visit in 19 years, at Gul's invitation.
