Ricciardone: Turkish and Armenian historians should meet

US Ambassador to Ankara Francis Ricciardone answered questions on @ABDTurk, namely, the official Twitter account in Turkish which was opened by the US State Department. In reply to a question whether he thinks President Barack Obama would use the term "genocide" on April 24th considering the upcoming elections,pened by r stions on US State Departments Turkish Twitter account Ricciardone indicated that he obviously didn't know exactly what Obama would say in April. "But as President Obama said earlier, both Armenian and Turkish people should deal with historical facts and look ahead. This was what I meant, when I said that we must face ghosts of the past. Communication is necessary. Historians from both sides should come together," Ricciardone noted. Answering a question about Roj TV, Ricciardone wrote, "We have always supported freedom of press, but we are against directing people towards violence." In reply to users' questions on US visa exemption for Turkish citizens, Ricciardone indicated, "The mutual lifting of visa requirements is carried out as part of the Visa Waiver Program of the US. The US and Turkey enjoy close relations. We believe that Turkey has made progress with regard to being eligible for the Visa Waiver Program."
