Road map for visa-free Europe ready
In the process of providing Turkish citizens with visa exemptions, the final phase has been reached with regard to the road map consisting of steps to be taken by Ankara. While it is expected from Brussels to finalize the document and sent it to Ankara, Turkey's Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis reiterated Turkey's demands and expectations from the Commission. Within this framework, Bagis met with EU Home Affairs Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom in Strasbourg. Speaking after the meeting, Bagis said, "They promised us that the document would be objective and away from political maneuvers" but in line with a cautious approach, Bagis added, "We should wait until we see the document." Ankara will decide whether to accept the terms after receiving the road map. "Both the EU and Turkey have certain expectations from one another. We mainly expect that unfair, unlawful and unreasonable visa applications imposed on Turkish citizens will come to an end."
