Science, Industry and Technology Minister to appoint science envoys abroad
Science, Industry and Technology Minister Nihat Ergun has initiated efforts to set up science offices at Turkish embassies abroad in order to increase the contribution of innovation to economy, establish new cooperation and attract more investments. Stating that these efforts are jointly conducted with the Foreign Ministry, Ergun said, "We are planning to appoint science envoys to cities with a high potential of science and technology, as well as a dense population of Turkish scientists and entrepreneurs abroad. Within this framework, we want to appoint them initially in San Francisco and Boston in the US, Japan and Germany. There are clusters in areas such as informatics in San Francisco, as well as biotechnology, green technologies, health and energy in Boston. We will be able to become aware of possible opportunities in these cities beforehand, and seize the opportunity of following and guiding the researches which are conducted by Turkish scientists thanks to science envoys," Ergun said. Stating that the Ministry would also determine the areas on which Turkish scientists study, the companies and countries they work for, and thus establish a science pool, Ergun said that the mentioned pool would enable scientists to set up a strong network both among themselves and with Turkey.
