Speaking at an annual conference entitled "New Difficulties and Opportunities" which was jointly organized by the Turkish-American Association and Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists of Turkey (TUSKON), Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek said that Turkey was away from the euro crisis in a number of euro zone countries and that cooperation with the US was critically important in terms of evaluating the economic and political position of Turkey in the region. Simsek added that Turkey, which enjoyed a wide room for maneuver in the field of finance, is also capable of borrowing with lower interest rates than that of 15 euro zone countries. Kemal Dervis, Vice-Chair of the Brookings Institute, said that now the emerging markets, including Turkey, had a stronger position under the IMF and that Turkey could gain great achievements within the G20 and Executive Board of the IMF by working in cooperation with the US.
