Turkey which wasn't in too much of a hurry over foreign aid materials following the devastating earthquake in the eastern province of Van has finally requested tents from the EU. Accordingly, Brussels gave a favorable reply to Turkey's request and mobilized its European Civilian Protection Mechanism (ECPM). The EU member countries which have immediately accepted Turkey's requests consist of Austria, Belgium, France, Britain, Sweden and Slovenia. As part of this, Germany is getting ready for sending 500 tents, 2,500 blankets and 14 tent radiators. A 15-member aid team from Armenia has also arrived in Turkey. Besides, another 40-tone package consisting of such aid materials as tents, sleeping bags and blankets will be sent to Turkey. The Hungarian Disaster Recovery Institute stated that it would send a 12-member team to Turkey as well. Russia said that it has prepared two aircrafts to be sent to Turkey for aid purposes. Britain will also send 1,144 winter tents and humanitarian aid experts to furnish services to 5,500 people in Turkey.
