Sumela Monastery to be renovated

Ministry of Culture and Tourism is planning to undertake a comprehensive renovation work at the Sumela Monastery in order to make it into the list of World Heritage List of UNESCO. As a first step, the ministry documented the measurements of the land the monastery is on and current condition of the monastery. The project will be carried out in three steps, namely, surveying, restitution and restoration. A laboratory affiliated with the Culture and Tourism Ministry will be responsible for preservation of the frescoes on the wall of the monastery. The ministry devoted a budget of TL410,000 for the restoration of Sümela Monastery.
