The European Parliament (EP) gave support to the EU Minister and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis about whom an investigation was launched by THE Zurich prosecution office because of his statement that "There was no genocide". Turkey reporter of EP Ria Oomen-Ruijten who met with Bagis in Brussels said, "Everybody should be able to express his/her opinions freely" and criticized the efforts of Switzerland and France to limit freedom of expression. Oomen-Ruijten stated that she didn’t approve of the attempts aimed at incorporating Armenian claims into the draft report about Turkey which was prepared by some EP members, saying, "We will see the result at the end of voting." Stating that he will do the same thing in Davos, if necessary, Bagis criticized the investigation which was launched about him. "No power can arrest a minister of Turkey. Everybody should be at ease about this subject. We don’t have reservations," Bagis said. He added that Turkey’s history was spotless, compared to histories of other countries which dare to question Turkey, and thus called on Swiss prosecutor not to waste time.
