Supreme military council decisions approved by Gul

After receiving President Abdullah Abdullah Gul's approval, the decisions made at Turkey's three-day Supreme Military Council (YAS) meeting were announced on the official website of the General Staff. In line with decisions, 40 generals currently held under arrest were retired, 29 generals and admirals were promoted to higher ranks and 47 captains were promoted to generalship and admiralty. Furthermore, the terms in office of 33 generals and admirals were extended an additional year. The command structure of the Turkish Armed Forces did not change this year, because none of the force commanders completed their terms in office or reached retirement age.
