Supreme military council disbusses promotions and retirements
The Supreme Military Council (YAS), chaired by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the morning and by Chief of General Staff Gen. Necdet Ozel in the afternoon, discussed promotions and retirements of staff of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) and developments along the Syrian border, and reviewed possible measures that could be taken to host fleeing Syrians within Syria itself on the second day of its meeting on Thursday. The military council also discussed the situation of 68 active duty generals and admirals who are currently in jail on coup plotting and terrorism charges. Following the council meeting, members attended an iftar (fast-breaking dinner) which was given by Erdogan.
