Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Finance Minister Ersin Tatar yesterday called on Turkish businesspeople to invest in his country, touting investment opportunities there. In Istanbul, Tatar said he recently held productive discussions with the Istanbul Chamber of Industry. "After our Istanbul meetings, we will go to other major cities in Turkey and meet with businesspeople there," he told reporters. The TRNC wants to strengthen and develop ties in every area with Turkey, Tatar said. "We want to attract much more investment from Turkey," he added. Tatar said most of the TRNC's income comes from tourism, trade and education. "Our main future is in tourism, which is awaiting investments," he added. "We want to promote Turkish Cyprus as a new destination. Quality villas are available there for $120,000." Tatar said his government also wants to attract international capital to the TRNC through Turkey. Not even 2 million mainland Turks have visited the TRNC over the last 30 years, according to Tatar. "We have to promote Northern Cyprus better," he said.
