The Turkish Television and Radio Corporation (TRT) has become a shareholder in Euronews, the international multilingual news channel, and joined the channel's supervisory board, the state-run broadcaster announced on Tuesday. TRT bought 15.7 percent of Euronews shares to become its fourth main partner. The agreement between TRT and Euronews was signed in February and came into effect last month for the start of broadcasts in Turkish on Euronews. News in Turkish will be broadcast round the clock, as the ninth language of Euronews, which reaches nearly 300 million people in 150 countries around the world. TRT head Ibrahim Sahin said that the new partnership would help not only Turkey's European Union accession bid but also international promotion of the country.
