Turkey demands return of its marble
The UK daily Independent wrote yesterday that the Turkish Culture Ministry requested from the Victoria and Albert Museum in London to return a 1,700-year-old life-sized marble carving of a child's head which was described as similar to Eros, the Greek god of love, and taken from Anatolia nearly a century ago. Tolga Tuyluoglu, director of Turkey’s culture and tourism office in London, said that the Turkish Culture Ministry is of the opinion that the marble head belongs to Turkey and they believed that if an item has been removed from a country, then it should be returned to the original place. He described the issue as a complicated one, adding that there are many agreements between the two countries and that they are discussing the matter.
