Turkey marks the 66th session of the UN General assembly
Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, who has been in New York to attend the 66th session of the UN General Assembly, completed his contacts yesterday. Davutoglu held 49 bilateral meetings along with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, attended 22 multilateral conferences and chaired or co-chaired seven meetings, and Turkey signed three agreements and had a total of 81 contacts as part of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly in New York last week. Turkey's comprehensive contacts covering a wide area from the US to Iran and Latin American countries to Africa showed Turkey's increasing importance in the international arena. Turkey has not only co-chaired the International Mediation Initiative with Finland, but also established the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum with the US. Speaking about his contacts in New York at a press conference yesterday, Davutoglu said that Turkey's international visibility has been confirmed and its efficiency has been observed by all parties at the UN. Stating Turkey started to be involven in such global and regional issues as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Arab Spring, human tragedy in Somali, nuclear disarmament and fighting terrorism, Davutoglu said that Turkey has exerted its authority on the EU's agenda and made its presence clearly felt in terms of conducting and managing the agenda. He added that Turkey would from now on make all sorts of contributions with regard to international peace, justice and stability both in economic and political fields.
