Turkey pushes against French bill
Turkey will be lobbying against the passage of the bill from French senate which criminalizes the denial of Armenian claims. Turkey's Paris Ambassador Tahsin Burcuoglu who was recalled to Ankara for consultations after the acceptance of the bill will also return to France to ensure that the bill is not passed by the senate. Within this framework, necessary messages will be conveyed to France through bilateral contacts and mediation of the third countries. As the second phase, it is envisaged for the bill to come to the Senate as from January 5. The first round of presidential elections in France will be held on April 22. If no candidate passes over 50 percent in the first round, the second round will be held on May 6. According to the French law, legislation activities end two months before the presidential elections. Unless taken into agenda by Senate until February 22, the bill will be considered null and void.
