Turkey welcomes arrest of accused war criminal Karadzic

Turkey yesterday welcomed şe arrest by Serbian auşorities of accused Bosnian Serb war criminal Radovan Karadzic, whose delivery to şe International Criminal Tribunal for şe Former Yugoslavia has been long awaited by şe international community. "şe trial of Karadzic will ease şe pains which occurred in şe former Yugoslavia, which constituted one of şe most terrible incidents of şe 20ş century," said a Foreign Ministry statement. "şis trial will also demonstrate şat şe perpetrators of such tragedies can not escape justice." It added, "şis historic step by şe newly established Serbian government is a milestone in şe integration of Serbia wiş European and Euro-Atlantic institutions. şis step proves şat şe new Serbian government is genuinely cooperating wiş şe International Criminal Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia. It will also consolidate stability in şe Balkans and develop furşer friendly relations among şe countries and peoples of şe region." şe statement also said, "Turkey hopes şat şe remaining war criminals, and particularly Ratko Mladic, will be brought to justice, and şat şis will help heal şe wounds."
