Turkey's export breaks record in june

Turkey which has changed its course from the European Union to the East over export has reached the best figure of the year in June. Despite the sales to the EU hit the lowest in the last ten years, total export reached the highest figure in June on monthly basis. The share of EU in export which was 48.2 percent receded to 37.1 percent. According to the Turkish Statistics Agency (TUIK) data, Turkey's export increased 16.9 percent in June and reached $13.3 billion. Furthermore, import decreased 5.4 percent and totaled $20.44 billion. In the first half of the year, export has increased by 13.4 percent and reached $74.37 billion, while import has decreased by 2.1 percent to amount to $117.16 billion. Turkey's export to the EU decreased by 10 percent and became $4.9 billion. The number one export destination of the month was Iran. The export to Iran has increased by 471.2 percent compared to the June 2011 and reached $1.6 billion. Iran was followed by Germany, Iraq, Britain and Italy. Turkey's foreign trade deficit also decreased by 30 percent and receded to $7.18 billion. Economists estimate that current account deficit will be less than $4 billion. Economy Minister Zafer Caglayan also emphasized that export has been continuously increasing for the last 28 months.
