Turkey's industrial production increases

According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), Turkey's industrial production index increased by 2.7 percent in June, compared to the same month last year. Considering the sub-sectors of industry, the mining and quarrying sector grew by 4.6 percent and the manufacturing sector by 1.8 percent over same month previous year. The gas, steam and air conditioning supply sector index grew by 9.2 percent in June over the same month of 2011. Speaking on these figures, Science, Industry and Technology Minister Nihat Ergun said that the general trend in growth was more important than temporary changes, adding, "The data are in line with economic targets set by a government medium-term economic program (OVP)."
