Turkish frigate completes shanghai goodwill mission, proceeds to Japan
A Turkish missile frigate, one of the vessels in the Turkish naval fleet assigned to a UN anti-piracy task force in the Gulf of Aden, docked at the Port of Shanghai on Monday for a goodwill voyage to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with China. The TCG Gemlik frigate was also open for public visits for three days. In a welcoming ceremony, a Chinese admiral said the frigate's visit would open a new chapter in relations between Turkey and China and would contribute to bilateral ties. The Gemlik left Shanghai yesterday to participate in a ceremony in Japan commemorating the Ottoman frigate Ertugrul, which sunk off the Japanese coast than a century ago.
