A top representative of the UN's refugee agency yesterday expressed gratitude and praise for Turkey's open border policy for Syrians fleeing violence and unrest. "Turkey is the sole country to declare an open border policy," said Carol Batchelor of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. "This is indeed a very impressive operational approach. The UNHCR is ready to extend any help we can." She added, "We are utterly grateful for Turkey's policy. The border is open and Turkey is welcoming people, registering them, and accommodating them. This is a very clear and positive message."
