The International Tourism Exchange (ITB Berlin), one of the most prominent tourism organizations of the world, has opened its doors for the 46th time in Berlin, Germany which was marked by Turkey as in previous years. The Fair witnesses a competition between giants of the sector, namely, Turkey and Spain, while Egypt and Tunisia lagged behind due to the Arab Spring and Greece due to the economic crisis. Turkey shows off at booths covering an area of 3,079 square meters at the fair, which is attended by 11,163 companies from 188 countries, including tour operators, hotels, airplane companies, online reservation web pages as well as ministries, local administrations and tourism organizations. Furthermore, contracts for the season of 2012 were signed at the fair. The latest trends in tourism sector which employs more than 100 million people will also be discussed at the ITB Berlin. Touristic Hotels and Investors' Association (TUROB) President Timur Bayindir who attended the fair said that Turkey has been achieving progress in tourism sector.
