World's longest pipeline to be installed in Harran
A 9,300 kilometer pipeline is being installed in southeastern Harran Plain to solve the dryland salinity problem. The project has recently been recognized as being the longest pipeline according to Guinness World Records officials. A press conference is set to be held on Thursday to be also attended by Guinness World Records officials. A closed drainage system is being set up on the 65,000 hectare of the plain to prevent dryland salinity. The work of installing the pipe started in 2010 and is expected to be completed at the end of this year. The pipe is being installed 1.6 meters below the soil surface. So far, two third of pipe has been installed.
