For a proposed NATO missile shield, Turkey wants a comprehensive system improving the security of all the allies, Foreign Ministry spokesman Selcuk Unal said yesterday. "Meetings (on the system) are underway," Unal told reporters in Ankara. "We start with the principle of indivisibility of security." On a European Court of Human Rights ruling awarding record compensation in 19 Greek Cypriot property cases, Unal said this isn't a setback for the Northern Cyprus Property Commission. Unal also said Ankara and Athens both have the political will to continue exploratory talks to resolve the Aegean issues. Asked about this week's visit to Ankara of Nechirvan Barzani, former premier of the Kurdish regional government and deputy head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Unal said counter-terrorism had been discussed and that both sides want to continue contacts and dialogue.
