Japanese firm Toshiba expressed interest in constructing Turkey's second nuclear power plant during State Minister for Foreign Trade Mehmet Zafer Caglayan's visit this week. During the last stop of his Far Eastern tour yesterday, Caglayan told the Japanese Business Federation that Toshiba showed interest in becoming involved in Turkey's energy sector. "Toshiba officials told me that they wanted to participate in nuclear power plant projects," he said. Caglayan also called on Japanese businessmen to invest in Turkey, in particular in nuclear energy, sustainable energy and satellites. "We've started cooperation with Russia on Turkey's first nuclear power plant," he said. "Many companies are interested in building the second plant. We've held talks about this with businessmen in the US, Canada and China." Caglayan also said he had discussed Turkey's investment climate and new incentive system with Japanese Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Akihiro Ohata as well as Toshiba executives. "We want to work together with you," Caglayan told the businessmen's group. "Most of you are owners of the world's leading companies. Let us expand our areas of cooperation." During his trip, Caglayan also met with Japanese Prince Tomohito.
