Turks are happier now than they were five years ago, according to a new survey by global market researcher TNS. The study, conducted every half-decade among urban and rural Turks 15 and over from 24 provinces, found that Turkish society is shifting toward a constitution blending tradition with modernity. Based on interviews with 2,072 participants, about evenly split between the sexes, the survey found that even though many Turks have trouble paying their debts, they are, in general, happy. Some 87.6 percent of Turks surveyed described themselves as feeling happy, up from 72.8 percent in 2005.
