A politician of Turkish origin is likely to become a member, focusing on integration issues, of the new Cabinet to be formed for Germany’s Baden-Wurttemberg state. Bilkay Oney, a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, or SPD, and the Berlin State Assembly, would be the second Turk to hold such a state-level position. Despite the existing prejudice among many Germans toward immigrants, Oney said she would be proud to take on the position of integration minister in Baden-Wurttemberg. Pointing the lack of an integration minister in Baden-Wurttemberg, Oney said an action plan would be prepared to establish such a ministry by investigating the problems experienced in the process of adjustment. She said she would approach everybody equally without making a distinction between Germans and immigrants. The new Cabinet in the Baden-Wurttemberg state will be announced Thursday and will start its duty May 12, after an oath-taking ceremony.
