Parliament holds servise remembering last veteran of war of independence

Parliament held yesterday a memorial service for Mustafa Sekip Birgol, the last veteran of the War of Independence, who died this week at the age of 105. Attending the service were President Abdullah Gul, Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan, Chief of General Staff Gen. Ilker Basbug, Deputy Prime Minister Cemil Cicek, and several Cabinet members and political party representatives. Birgol will be laid to rest today in Istanbul after a state funeral with the participation of top military and civilian officials.
