Russian firm pledges to make Turkish nuclear plant quake-resistant

Amid the disaster at quake-stricken Japanese nuclear plants, the Russian contractor set to build a nuclear plant in Turkey has pledged to make it quake-resistant. Russia's NPP JSC said it would build the plant in Akkuuy, Mersin, in the Black Sea region, to resist magnitude 9 earthquakes. "We are re-examining all norms after the disaster in Japan," said Alexander Superfin, the firm's CEO. "The project in Turkey will be constructed in accordance with the highest standards."
