The turmoil rocking the Greek Cypriot government should not affect its peace negotiations with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), said TRNC President Dervis Eroglu yesterday. The entire Greek Cypriot Cabinet resigned yesterday in the face of growing public anger over a deadly munitions blast earlier this month. Greek Cypriot President Dimitris Christofias, however, vowed not to step down. "The resignation of the Greek Cypriot government should not affect the Cyprus negotiation process," said Eroglu. "I believe it should not affect the process, because in Greek Cyprus when the government resigns, an election is not the first thing that comes to mind. The president looks for new alternatives, tries to build a new government." He added, "In any case, (Greek Cypriot President Dimitris) Christofias is going to have a headache. How can he concentrate on the negotiations with that kind of a headache? We will see him at today's meeting if he doesn't want to postpone them."
