United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon seems determined that the Cyprus peace talks produce results by year's-end, said Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Dervis Eroglu over the weekend. After meeting with Ban in New York on Saturday, Eroglu told reporters that Ban knows the Turkish side hopes to accelerate the talks. "The issue of the return, compensation and exchange of properties is included in our proposal package." said Eroglu. On Greek Cypriot leader Dimitris Christofias' remarks about Turkey's role in the negotiations, Eroglu stated that the problem is on the island and that a solution to it lies with the people on Cyprus meeting at the negotiation table. Warning that the Turkish side is increasingly losing interest in the talks, he added, "If we continue the way the Greek side wants, we'll be at the table for another five or ten years."
