Work underway to set up joint industrial zone between Turkey, Iran

Turkey yesterday announced yet another step to forge closer economic and political ties with neighboring countries. Speaking at a joint press conference in Ankara following his meeting with Special Iranian Envoy Ali Aga Mohammedi, Industry and Trade Minister Nihat Ergun announced plans to set up a joint industrial zone between with Iran in one of Turkey's eastern provinces (Igdir, Agri, Hakkari or Van). A memorandum of understanding on the planned zone was signed in March in Tehran. Technical committees are continuing their work, and now the governments of the two countries are set to decide where the zone will be loacated, he added.
