Hopes run high for wekend Azeri-Armenian meeting
Hopes are running high for progress at this Saturday's meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders mediated by Russia. If there is progress, Turkey could come under pressure to normalize its relationship with neighboring Armenia, another component of the zero-problems policy of Ankara's reelected government. Armenian and Azeri leaders will gather in Kazan for a meeting brokered by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to discuss Nagorno-Karabakh, an Azeri territory occupied by Yerevan. The two sides are reportedly close to a framework agreement which could ultimately lead to a resolution of the long-running dispute.
