A group of Turkish entrepreneurs based in Europe have come together at the European Parliament in Brussels with their counterparts from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to discuss trade and investment opportunities in the region. A great many business representatives from western European countries showed interest in the "Opportunities for Investment in the Baltic States: Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania" conference which was organized by the European-Turkish Business Confederation (UNITEE). Stating that the countries which have been hostile to each other in history were now in cooperation, UNITEE Secretary General Savas Metin said, "We have been establishing economic bridges to overcome problems. We consider a Europe where borders are non-existent as our home and future." Speaking in her part, Clyde Kull, deputy permanent representative in charge of trade and development at the permanent representation of Estonia to the EU, stressed that investments to be made in this region would be greatly profitable. Also present at the event as a speaker was Latvian member of the EP Sandra Kalniete, who has indicated that Europe needs Turkey's membership more than Turkey needs the EU.
