Davutoglu set to visit Afghanistan today
Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu is set to pay a visit to Kabul, Afghanistan today to attend a landmark international conference. He will also open a facility of the Turkish provincial reconstruction team (PRT) in Cevizcan, Turkey's second PRT in Afghanistan. Turkey established its first PRT in Wardak, 35 kilometers from Kabul, after the UN Security Council decided that NATO would work to reconstruct Afghanistan. The PRTs aim to support development, developing infrastructure, and strengthening administration and security. In a statement Sunday, the Foreign Ministry said Turkey has been working with the support of the international community to help the Afghan people reach peace, stability and prosperity, and is also working to make the Kabul Conference a turning point for the future of Afghanistan. Representatives from more than 70 countries, international and regional organizations and financial institutions are expected to participate in the conference, meant to support a peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan.
