Asked by members of the European Parliament whether the European Union Commission recognizes the so-called Armenian genocide claims, the commission this week stated it's not its place to judge history. In response to a written question from a group of right-wing extremist MEPs, EU Commissioner for Enlargement Stephan Fuele said, "The business of the EU isn't to judge history." He added, "The EU is a project which aims at peace, democracy, stability and prosperity in this continent and is focused on the future." Fuele stated that the commission encourages both Turkey and Armenia to approve protocols to normalize their relations in a reasonable time and implement them without any preconditions.
