Flature: "EU is no longer able to affect democratization in Turkey"

EU-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee President Helene Flautre stated that the EU was no longer able to affect the democratization process in Turkey due to the vetoes imposed by France and Greek Cypriot administration. Speaking to the French La Croix daily, Flautre said that while the EU is now unable to affect democratization in Turkey, it has been showing greater interest in Turkey as a result of factors such as Turkey's growth rate, its non-negligible geostrategic location, as well as its diplomatic importance in the region at a time of uprisings in Arab countries.
