OECD invites Turkey to become a member of DAC

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has offered Turkey to become a member of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) which consists of 23 developed-country members. Turkey is now evaluating the offer. Once a positive decision is made by Turkey, it will become the 24th members of the DAC. According to figures from OECD, the assistance extended by Turkey for development purposes has increased by 27 folds over the last decade. Touching upon the issue, Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag said, "The official development assistance extended by our country has surpassed $1 billion for the first time in its history. A delegation from DAC has declared Turkey as the rising donor country and put us in the list of star countries with regard to the issue. DAC Chairman has personally visited Turkey and invited us to become a member. In the past, Turkey has exerted efforts to become a member of many international institutions, but now we receive such invitations to become a member. This is an indication of Turkey's power."
