OIC head Ihsanoglu: "We sould have a voice in the UN"
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) stands behind national dialogue efforts in countries beset by revolutionary violence, said OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu yesterday. "The OIC has a strong desire to build national dialogue between governments and opposition forces," Ihsanoglu said at a conference at Istanbul's Sabanci University. "This happened in Syria, and that example should be followed by other countries, and there should be a compromise of political powers, in my opinion." Ihsanoglu also stressed the OIC's importance in developing democracy across the region, adding that the OIC, which represents 1.5 billion people, should also have a seat on the UN Security Council.
