UK's independent: "FM Davutoglu played a role in secret Palestinian reconciliation meetings"
Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu played a role in recent meetings between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal and Egyptian intelligence officials which led to April's historic Palestinian reconciliation, according to British daily The Independent. Davutoglu attended the meetings with his Egyptian counterpart Nabil al-Arabi, according to reporter Robert Fisk. Fisk quoted one of the principal intermediaries, 75-year old Munib Masri, as saying: "Al-Arabi said: 'Can I bring in the foreign minister of Turkey, who happens to be in Egypt?' So we all talked about the initiative together. We noticed the close relationship between the foreign ministry and the intelligence ministry. That's how I found out that 'new' Egypt had a lot of confidence; they were talking in front of Turkey; they wanted to talk in front of Turkey."
