UN reportdely wants Cyprus problem solved by year's-end

The UN wants a solution to the Cyprus issue by the end of the year, and Ankara and the Turkish Cypriots are amenable, according to diplomatic sources. UN General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon conveyed this desire to the both sides with his deputy Lynn Pascoe and Special Envoy Alexander Downer. In a meeting with Downer, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu stressed the determination of both Ankara and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) to reach a resolution.
